A Stroke in time

I’ve been remixing online porn for some time. Collecting, cutting, animating, layering. But after a while I started wondering. What did we watch before? Before streaming, before tabs, before the algorithm decided what we liked.

So I started digging. Old magazines, film stills, forgotten ads, digital archives. I wanted to see how gay men consumed porn, and how porn shaped our desires decade after decade. The explicit has always been there, but the way it’s framed keeps shifting. Media, design, typography, tone. Porn has always been looked down upon, which made me want to highlight each decade in its own visual overload.

I am making one collage per decade. Messy, layered, in motion. Like the experience they reflect.

Porn is easier to access than ever. It is also more complex, more controlled. And with censorship rising again, I cannot help but wonder where it will take us next.
